Network Upgrades

Inside this issue:

There are a few important upgrades to our network scheduled for the next two months.

Depending on your particular circumstance, you may see significant improvements to your network speeds due to these upgrades.

First, we will be installing a new router in the Gloucester High School. This new router will speed up the routing of traffic between our

Gloucester and Salem network nodes. It will also increase our capacity for additional T1s in Gloucester for the future.

Next, we will be installing a caching web server in Salem. This server will cache images and web pages frequently visited by subscribers. Storing those pages within our local network will enable those pages to “come down” much faster to your computer.

We will also be adding additional ethernet switches to our network which will increase the flow of traffic throughout the network.

Contract Renewals

As we mentioned last month, the contracts with Verizon for our access lines in Salem and Gloucester will soon be up for renewal.

We are also negotiating with other access line providers. Our goal is to get a competitive price with a company we can depend on to stay in business over the next few years. This is no small task given the current economy.

We will continue to keep you advised on any progress we make with these negotiations.

AutoReply Service

We are in the final stages of developing an autoreply program for all of our subscribers.

This autoreply program will enable you to setup

autoreplies, or “vacation” messages; automatic replies to email stating that you are currently unavailable and will personally reply to their message when you return.

We will be providing this service to you once we have completed the web interface for the auto-reply program.

The web interface will be a secure web form that will enable you to enter the dates you want your autoreply to start and end, as well as the message you want sent in the autoreply.

Help Desk Notes

SysAdmin's Corner

It was another quiet month at the help desk.

Again, most calls were for account setup information.

If you ever need help, please select tech support if you call

our main office numbers. This will enable you to get our access numbers, email settings or talk with someone at our help desk.

Remember, the tech support team is available 24 hours a day and the direct, toll free number is
877-221-2116.

This was another quiet month on the network as well. None of our upstream providers had any incidents to report.

The new web server is running smoothly. We will continue to monitor its performance over the next month or so.

As mentioned on the front page, we will be configuring and installing a new router this month.

We will also be building the caching server and should have that completed around the start of November.

New Subscriber Referral Promotion!

Are you pleased with our service? Do you know someone who is unhappy with their current Internet or On-line service?

Why not do them and yourself a favor?

Just recommend our service. If they subscribe, we'll give you a free month of access!

They will appreciate your advice and you'll save a little money.

Again this month, over a dozen subscribers are getting their access in October for free - just by referring new subscribers.

Everybody wins!
