New Services Planned

Inside this issue:

We are planning several new software development projects to provide new services to you.

These new services will take advantage of our recently deployed Sun equipment running java application servers.

The first project involves migrating our current radius server to a database-driven radius server. The radius server checks your username and password for accessing the Internet and our network.

Gone Fishin'

This will enable our tech support team to change your password immediately on your request.

The next project will replace our Community Bulletin Board with a more current, highly featured bulletin board. Bulletin boards enable people to conduct conversations via their web browser. Our current bulletin board was installed in 1998 and is due for a makeover.

The other project will create an instant messaging service for Cove subscribers, which will be compatible with AIM, ICQ, MSN, and Yahoo.

News Server Update

We provide Usenet service with our dialup access plans.

Usenet newsgroups are online discussions on virtually any topic you can imagine.

There are currently over 30,000 topics being discussed on Usenet.

You can access Usenet by setting the NNTP server to news.cove.com in your browser.

You do need to use your user name (username@cove.com) and password to access the server.

Outlook/Norton Problems

You may have trouble with your email if you use Microsoft Outlook or Outlook Express with Norton Anti-Virus.

A recent Norton “Live Update” broke many installations of the Microsoft email programs.

Symantec, the company that owns Norton products, suggests you disable e-mail scanning in Norton Anti-Virus until they can fix the problem.

Articles describing the problem can be found at Microsoft and Symantec.

I'm sure glad we have VirusCheck! :)

Help Desk Notes

SysAdmin's Corner

It was a quiet month at the help desk.

Most calls were for account setup information.

If you ever need help, please select tech support (Option 2) if you call our main office. This

will enable you to get our dialup access numbers, email settings or our toll-free help desk number.

Please remember, our help desk team is available to you 24 hours a day and the direct, toll free number is
877-221-2116.

This was mainly a quiet month on the network. Our upstream provider had some routing issues on May 15 for about 20 minutes (3:50 to 4:10 pm).

Last month was spent upgrading servers and we will

continue with those upgrades through June.

We are also continuing to move our web forms from perl/cgi to java for added security. This project is scheduled to be completed by the end of June.

New Subscriber Referral Promotion!

Are you pleased with our service? Do you know someone who is unhappy with their current Internet or On-line service?

Why not do them and yourself a favor?

Just recommend our service. If they subscribe, we'll give you a free month of access!

They will appreciate your advice and you'll save a little money.

Again this month, over a dozen subscribers are getting their access in June for free - just by referring new subscribers.

Everybody wins!
