August 2002    Volume 8 Issue 1
  What's New at The Cove

WebMail Notes

Inside this issue:

Our WebMail service is now accessible from our main page. It has replaced the Gate-Wave link on the NNW point of the compass rose.

WebMail is a convenient way to send and receive your email when you are away from your regular computer. You can use any computer connected to the Internet to access WebMail through a browser.

We have made a few improvements to our WebMail software based on subscribers'

recommendations. You can now see the file size of each message from the “Inbox” page. The secure server

supporting WebMail is now using Cove's secure certificate, so you will no longer see any error messages from your browser when accessing WebMail.

The next planned improvement is to enable you to add attachments from either the “Compose New Message,” “Reply to Message,” or “Forward Message” pages.

Seventh Anniversary

This issue marks the seventh anniversary of our newsletter!

This newsletter began about seven months after we first began providing Internet

access to the public.

The newsletter started as a way to inform you on what was going on with the Cove network, advise you of newsworthy items

relating to the Internet and notify you of upcoming events.

We hope to continue bringing this newsletter to you for many years to come!

Access Plans Changed

We have made some changes to our access plans. No need to worry, our rates have not increased.

The only increase is in the amount of hours you are

entitled to use each month!

Our Basic Access Plan has increased from 50 hours to 100 hours per month and the rate remains at $20.

Our Extended Access Plan has increased from 100 hours to 250 hours and the rate remains at $25.

There is no change to the Unlimited Access Plan.

Of course, we still do not charge for any time used over these limits; they are “soft limits” set as guidelines.

Help Desk Notes

SysAdmin's Corner

It was another quiet month at the help desk.

Again, most calls were for account setup information.

If you ever need help, please select the technical support option if you call our main

office numbers. This will enable you to get our access numbers, email settings or talk with someone at our help desk.

Remember, the tech support team is available 24 hours a day and the direct, toll free number is
877-221-2116.

This was another quiet month on the network as well. None of our upstream providers had any incidents to report.

We made a software upgrade to our secondary Cisco etherswitch last month to correct some connectivity problems.

This month we are installing a new incoming mail server, the long-awaited new web server, a new database server and a new iPlanet application server. It promises to be a busy month!

TGIC.NET

You may have heard that The Gloucester Internet Connection closed their doors on July 31. We wish them all the best in their future ventures.

If you know someone who used

TGIC.NET as their ISP, perhaps you can suggest they try switching to Cove.

They will appreciate your advice and you'll save a little money.

Again this month, over a dozen subscribers are getting their access in August for free - just by referring new subscribers.

Everybody wins!

Did You Know?

Did you know that Cove services Cape Ann from the Gloucester High School? When you dial into 978-675-5900, you are dialing into Gloucester High!

We have been providing Internet access to the City of Gloucester and the Gloucester Schools since 1996.
