March 2002    Volume 7 Issue 8
  What's New at The Cove

New Services

Inside this issue:

We have been developing several new services over the past few months and will be providing them to you soon.

Many of these new services are improvements for our web hosting customers.

An easy to use control panel will allow these customers to add web services to their existing web site, such as FrontPage extensions, Secure Socket Layers (SSL) and databases.

The control panel will also enable all customers with domains hosted by Cove to manage their own email accounts, email forwarders, and autoresponding messages.

The new web control panel will be ready near the end of March.

All Cove subscribers will also be able to manage their email accounts, email forwarders and autoresponders by contacting our toll free 24-hour tech support line at 877-221-2116.

These new email services for Cove subscribers will become available around mid-April.

Router Upgrade

We will be upgrading our primary router to a new, higher capacity Cisco router in late March.

The primary router connects the Cove network to the Internet, so there will be a

short network outage when the upgrade takes place.

To minimize the service disruption caused by this outage, we will schedule the upgrade during a weekend.

All subscribers will receive email notification in advance of the router upgrade date.

WebMail Improvements

Our WebMail service has become quite popular. It is a very convenient way to use your Cove email account though a web browser when away from your usual computer.

The first version of WebMail was a test to see if we could access POP accounts via Sun's JavaMail program suite.

That test was successful and now we are testing to see if we

can also delete messages from POP accounts. That testing is almost completed.

Once we have the delete message function stabilized, we will include that function on the

live WebMail site.

We expect this will be available to you by mid-March.

Help Desk Notes

SysAdmin's Corner

It was another quiet month at the help desk.

Again, most calls were for account setup information.

If you ever need help, please ask for tech support if you call

our main office numbers. This will help the answering service properly route your call.

Remember, the tech support team is available 24 hours a day and the direct, toll free number is
877-221-2116.

This was another quiet month on the network as well. None of our upstream providers had any incidents to report.

We will be installing a new web server this month. This server is a 1.5 GHz machine with 1 Gb ECC RAM and a 72 Gb RAID storage array.

It's amazing how far computers have come in the past 8 years!

Our first server was a '486 VLB with 32 Mb RAM and a 1 Gb scsi drive. That was quite an impressive machine in 1994.

New Subscriber Referral Promotion!

Are you pleased with our service? Do you know someone who is unhappy with their current Internet or On-line service?

Why not do them and yourself a favor?

Just recommend our service. If they subscribe, we'll give you a free month of access!

They will appreciate your advice and you'll save a little money.

Again this month, over a dozen subscribers are getting their access in March for free - just by referring new subscribers.

Everybody wins!

Internet Training

Have you seen our web-based training packages?

They are convenient, up-to-date, and very inexpensive. Please visit this web site at:
