MailCheck

Inside this issue:

Our new MailCheck service is a powerful combination of anti-spam (SpamCheck) and anti-virus (VirusCheck) tools developed to protect Cove subscribers from spammers and attacks from viruses sent via infected email messages.

We have received quite a few compliments from subscribers on the effectiveness of this new service.

The VirusCheck tool

uses the sophisticated Sophos anti-virus software to scan each incoming message for viruses. If Sophos is able to disinfect an infected message, it sends the clean version to you. If it is unable to disinfect the

message, it replaces the infected portion with a note telling you about the virus. Either way, the sender is alerted about the virus they sent.

The Sophos anti-virus program is expensive. We originally thought we would have to charge an annual fee to continue using it past the evaluation period. However, we decided to include it as an added benefit to our email customers at no charge!

Published Work

Prior to founding Cove, Bill Ostaski worked as a telecommunications consultant, lectured at various universities and authored many articles for trade magazines.

This month marks another milestone in Bill's career, as a contributing author of a book published by Wiley & Sons. Bill wrote the chapter on Internet

protocols in the Reference Manual for Telecommunications Engineering, Third Edition, by Roger L. Freeman of Scottsdale, AZ.

Thanks Roger!

MailCheck (Continued)

Our MailCheck service will be offered to businesses for a fee to help offset the costs.

The SpamCheck tool checks each message and inserts a {SPAM?} tag

into the subject line of messages coming from networks known for sending spam.

If you have setup your email program to divert those messages to

another mailbox (or delete them), you have spared yourself the trouble of having to cull out your real email from spam in your inbox.

If you haven't yet

setup your email program to take advantage of our new service, we strongly encourage you to go to www.cove.com/spamcheck.html and follow the detailed instructions.

Help Desk Notes

SysAdmin's Corner

It was another quiet month at the help desk.

Again, most calls were for account setup information.

Our new support team now handles all tech support issues.

If you need help, please ask

for tech support if you call our main office numbers. This will help the answering service properly route your call.

Remember, the tech support team is available 24 hours a day and the direct, toll free number is
877-221-2116.

This was another quiet month on the network as well. None of our upstream providers had any incidents to report.

We are still fine-tuning the MailCheck servers; enhancing their capability to process even larger amounts of

email.

Our WebMail interface is down for a feature upgrade. We will address this service next month in greater detail.

Work continues on a number of java-based control panels for virtual email and web servers.

New Subscriber Referral Promotion!

Are you pleased with our service? Do you know someone who is unhappy with their current Internet or On-line service?

Why not do them and yourself a favor?

Just recommend our service. If they subscribe, we'll give you a free month of access!

They will appreciate your advice and you'll save a little money.

Again this month, over a dozen subscribers are getting their access in February for free - just by referring new subscribers.

Everybody wins!
