VirusCheck Notes |
|
As you know, our MailCheck service is composed of two programs: VirusCheck and SpamCheck. Our VirusCheck program replaces infected messages with a warning message containing: "Cove VirusCheck Warning:". This phrase will be in red if you view your email as html. There is no need to do anything if you receive this message. It is only confirmation that VirusCheck has prevented an infected message from reaching your mailbox. |
|
If you have another email account (e.g., Verizon, Adelphia, Hotmail, Yahoo, etc.) you may still get an infected message. If you have a non-Cove email account, it is very important that you have a current anti-virus program running on your computer. Otherwise, you may infect your computer and other Cove subscribers. |
SpamCheck Upgrades |
||
|
We recently upgraded our SpamCheck program. The upgraded version now identifies up to 97% of all spam messages as they enter our network. |
A portion of SpamCheck employs a program known as SpamAssassin, which studies each message for a variety of characteristics typically found in spam, |
assigns "spam points" to the message and then compares that to our "spam threshold." Stomping out spam is fun! :) |
WebMail Upgrades |
|||
|
Our WebMail service will soon be accessible via Cove's home page. We will be replacing the link for GateWave.net with WebMail within the next few weeks. |
WebMail will also have a valid Secure Web Certificate, which verifies that you are really reaching an authentic Cove web site. |
A few subscribers have requested additional features to our WebMail service, including the ability to send attachments with messages and showing the |
size of each message when viewing the inbox. We are developing these features now and should have them completed by the end of the summer. If you have any suggestions, please ask! |
Help Desk Notes |

SysAdmin's Corner |

It was another quiet month at the help desk. Again, most calls were for account setup information. If you ever need help, please select tech support if you call |
our main office numbers. This will enable you to get our access numbers, email settings or talk with someone at our help desk. Remember,
the tech support team is available 24 hours a day and the direct, toll free

This was another quiet month on the network as well. None of our upstream providers had any incidents to report. We experienced a brief outage on our primary T1 on June 10, which lasted from about 8:45 am to 9:15 am. The problem was resolved before we contacted Verizon. There were several serious hardware failures last month, including a |
faulty motherboard and failed hard drives on various servers. Fortunately, we were able to keep up with these failures and service was not perceptibly affected.
We are rolling out our new primary web server early this month with many extra features. |

Just recommend our service. If they subscribe, we'll give you a free month of access! They will appreciate your advice and you'll save a little money. |
Again this month, over a dozen subscribers are getting their access in July for free - just by referring new subscribers. Everybody wins! |
