More Network Capacity Planned

Inside this issue:

We are planning to increase our network capacity in Cape Ann by the Fall season.

This upgrade will take place in several steps.

The first step will be an upgrade to the primary Cape Ann router. This will enable us to add additional T1 circuits to that portion of our network.

The next step will be to implement a proxy server to increase the availability and speed of web traffic to Cape Ann.

The final step will be to add another T1 to our Cape Ann facility, which is located at the Gloucester High School. This T1 will be directly connected to the Internet instead of connecting to the Internet via our Salem facility.

We are planning this increased capacity in response to a rise in demand for network resources throughout our network.

The upgrades will prevent any potential network congestion caused by this increase in demand.

Phone System Update

We will be reprogramming the new phone system to speed up our response time to your messages.

During times when we are either on the road or at another facility, the phone system will forward messages to either a mobile phone or to a phone at our other offices.

This means that your message will get to us immediately instead of when we check for messages.

This update is schedule for mid-June to mid-July.

Web Site Updates

Our anti-virus company, Sophos, is now providing us with a feed to their “Top Ten Lists” of virus information.

The lists include the ten most recently discovered viruses, the ten most prevalent viruses of the previous month and the ten most currently widespread virus hoaxes.

Each entry in these lists has a link to more information about the virus or hoax. You can view these lists at the bottom of the Internet section of our web site.

We are also updating the links on our Internet pages; removing inaccessible links and adding new links. If you have any suggestions for new links, please send an email to webmaster@cove.com. Thanks!

Help Desk Notes

SysAdmin's Corner

It was another quiet month at the help desk.

Again, most calls were for account setup information.

If you ever need help, please select tech support if you call

our main office numbers. This will enable you to get our access numbers, email settings or talk with someone at our help desk.

Remember, the tech support team is available 24 hours a day and the direct, toll free number is
877-221-2116.

This was another quiet month on the network as well. None of our upstream providers had any incidents to report.

We successfully swapped out our primary router on May 18 and will be fine-tuning the configuration throughout the month of June.

The new web server's debut has been postponed. The security patch for the control panel did not satisfy all of our concerns. We are now looking into alternative solutions and hope to have the issue resolved within a few weeks.
