Cape Ann Lines to be Fully Digital
All of our access lines in Cape Ann will be fully digital in December!
The five year contract on our old analog Centrex lines ends at the end of this month. Rather than extend that contract, we decided to opt for another channelized T1. A channelized T1 provides 24 digital lines.
This means all of our access lines in Cape Ann will soon be digital lines.
Digital lines are necessary on our end to provide 56k dialup access.
The new digital lines will also be connected to Lucent digital V.90 (56k) modems, like our current 56k modems.
Digital lines are noise-free and noise is the main cause of failed connections and slow transmission speeds, so this switchover will improve the overall performance of our access lines.
Subscribers who use 14.4k, 28.8k and 33.6k modems will still be able to dial into the new digital 56k lines without any difficulty, in fact their connections will most likely improve.
Subscribers who currently dial into our old analog lines (e.g., numbers starting with 283 or 281) will need to change their access number to 675-5900 once the switchover is completed.
Subscribers are urged not to change any settings until next month!
We will provide detailed information on the upcoming line switchover and the dialup settings changes in next month's newsletter.
New E-Learning Courses
MindLeaders, the company that provides course material for our web-based training service, has recently introduced 41 new courses to their impressive course offerings.
Many new courses cover Windows 2000 Office and Professional applications. Other new course topics include E-Commerce, Insurance Professional Development, and XML development.
A new search feature is added to all courses, access for the vision-impaired is introduced and a Tip of the Day feature is added.
You can check out these course offerings at the Sales & Services Section of our web site.
Help Desk Notes
It was another quiet month at the Cove Help Desk.
The few calls we did receive mainly had to do with forgotten usernames and passwords.
If you are having any trouble at all with our network, please call us!
We are very eager to make your use of the Cove network and the Internet in general as enjoyable and trouble-free as possible.
We're here to help you!
SysAdmin's Corner
The Cove network operated without any incidents last month and none of our upstream providers had any significant outages to report.
We just purchased a new super-server! The new server will be used to support our e-commerce applications. It has been benchmarked at performing 400 business transactions per minute!
We are still eagerly waiting for Lucent to provide their V.92 upgrade for our 56k digital modems.
Subscriber Referral Program
Are you pleased with our service? Do you know someone who is unhappy with their current Internet/On-line service?
Why not do them and yourself a favor?
Just recommend our service. If they subscribe, we'll give you a free month of access!
They will appreciate your advice and you'll save a little money.
Again this month, over a dozen subscribers are getting their access in November for free - by referring new subscribers.
Everybody wins!
