New Mail Server

Our new mail server is here and will be placed online soon!
This new server is an impressive state-of-the-art computer that will be in a "burn in" phase for the next few weeks.
The server will then be configured with the most recent version of BSD/OS (4.1) and Sendmail 8.9.3.
Sendmail is the SMTP program that enables our mail server to "talk" with other mail servers. The version we will be using has enhanced anti-spam features enabled. We anticipate that these features will remove most of the indirect spam that a few of our subscribers report receiving.
We will be swapping out the old mail server for the new over a weekend to reduce the effects of any possible break in email service.
A broadcast email will be sent to all subscribers at least ten days in advance of the swap.
There are no changes required on your computer. The swap will not affect your settings, or email, in any way.

More 56K Lines Scheduled for Cape Ann

A new T1 is being scheduled for installation at our Cape Ann facility and will add another 24 lines to our banks of digital 56k modems. The T1 will augment our existing T1 lines, which have seen unusually heavy use recently.
The main reason for the heavy use is that many subscribers who normally use our analog modems (e.g., less than 56k) have been dialing into the 56k modems.
If you have a 14.4, 28.8, or 33.6k modem, it is no longer necessary to dial into the 56k lines (675-5900).

SE Updates

Starting this month, we will be including Search Engine updates as part of our web hosting service at no extra charge.
This additional service will provide our web hosting customers with free submissions to the major Search Engines every four months.
Web hosting customers will be asked to provide keywords they would like to be submitted.
Increased traffic to these websites will be monitored by the website activity reports.
Our new website activity reports present the Search Engines and keywords currently being used to locate these websites.

Help Desk Notes

We discovered that many customers have somehow had their network settings changed recently. This change shows up on your screen as the error message: "unable to negotiate a compatible set of protocols."
While we don't know what is causing the changes, we can fix it by re-entering the network settings in your control panel.
Please call us if you have trouble connecting.
Remember, we're here to help you!

SysAdmin's Corner

We have been making significant investments into new networking hardware, computers and software recently.
As you know, we are now working on a new mail server.
Several new name servers, web servers, a secure e-commerce server, a Domain Name Registration (OpenSRS) server, another radius server, a network management server, and a networked storage server are also being constructed.
These will all be implemented over the next few months, as time permits.

Subscriber Referral Program

Are you pleased with our service? Do you know someone who is unhappy with their current Internet/On-line service?
Why not do them and yourself a favor?
Just recommend our service. If they subscribe, we'll give you a free month of access!
They will appreciate your advice and you'll save a little money.
Again this month, over a dozen subscribers are getting their access in April for free - by referring new subscribers.

Everybody wins!

Internet Training

Have you seen our new web-based training packages?
They are convenient, up-to-date, and very inexpensive.
You can even take a course on Windows98 for free!
