Volume 5 Issue 7
New Web-Based Training Service
We are currently building a new server to support our web-based training service.
As we mentioned last issue, this new service will enable you to take courses online; without the inconveniences of attending traditional, classroom-based courses.
The courses will be offered on four levels. The first level (end user subscription) provides access to over 85 courses for a full year for $48. The second level (technical user subscription) provides access to over 220 courses for a full year for $96. The third level (super user subscription) provides access to over 310 courses for a full year for $120. The fourth level is for organizations and is arranged on an individual basis. As you can see, these courses are priced much lower than traditional college courses.
We will be itemizing the full course listings on our Sales & Services Page. The service is scheduled to begin by late February or early March.
Other New Services
Subscribers with websites can now improve their standing on search engines with our new updating service. Using promotional tactics optimized for each search engine, we will submit your website to the major search engines every three months for only $35. See our Sales & Services Page for details.
We are also preparing to offer several other new services, including Domain Name Registration and Virtual Private Networks.
We have contracted with Tucows International to begin registering Domain Names under the Shared Registry System.
This system is endorsed by ICANN and will allow us to perform the same functions as Network Solutions, but at a lower annual rate.
The server and software are being tested and we plan to begin offering this service in March. We will provide more details in our next newsletter.
Companies with more than one location may want to look into virtual private networking. Our state-of-the-art networking equipment is capable of providing VPN services and we are configuring the necessary software - so stay tuned!
Help Desk Notes
Aside from our trouble one day with Bell Atlantic in Gloucester, it has been a very quiet month again for the help desk.
We have received a few reports of trouble maintaining a connection on the 56K lines. If this is happening to you, chances are your modem driver needs to be updated.
Don't wait! Please call us immediately, so we can help you assess the difficulty.
We're here to help!
SysAdmin's Corner
An equipment failure at Bell Atlantic around 5 a.m. on Jan 26 caused our 56K lines in Gloucester to ring busy.
Bell replaced the equipment around 6pm, but had their settings wrong, resulting in our modems answering but not connecting.
The good people at Lucent worked with Bell and had those lines back up working properly by 2 p.m. on Jan 27.
As an added benefit they also upgraded the operating system and modem drivers on our 56K terminal servers that same day.
Subscriber Referral Program
Are you pleased with our service? Do you know someone who is unhappy with their current Internet/On-line service?
Why not do them and yourself a favor?
Just recommend our service. If they subscribe, we'll give you a free month of access!
They will appreciate your advice and you'll save a little money.
Again this month, over a dozen subscribers are getting their access in February for free - by referring new subscribers.
Everybody wins!
