New Subscribers' Server

We have been developing a new server that will be dedicated to our subscribers. It should be up by the time you read this newsletter.
This new server replaces marina.cove.com, which housed subscribers' WebPages and the software suite that enables subscribers to manage their own WebPages through their browser. It will also be named marina.cove.com.
In addition to housing subscribers' WebPages and the software suite, the new marina will support an upgraded version of our Community Bulletin Board.
The Community Bulletin Board is provided for subscribers to post messages for the community. It can be accessed from the Community Section of our website.
Additional upgrades to this server are already scheduled. These upgrades include an updated version of the WebPages development software suite and a real-time chat service.

Phone Line Quality

Our region is plagued with poor telephone line quality due to aging, salt and extreme temperatures. This is often the cause of disconnects and logon failures.
Here are some ways to check your line quality and what you do can do about it.
IBM has a Website with tips on checking line quality and how to work with the phone company to get it improved. The URL is help.ibm.net/helplib/tlcoinfo.html.
3COM also has a number you can call that will actually analyze your phone line! The number is (847) 262-6000.

Spam Prevention

As you know, we take a very aggressive approach towards preventing spam from reaching your mailboxes.
You can help us battle this insidious processed pork by taking preventive measures.
Be cautious when supplying your email address to Internet sites. Spammers often use mailing lists as targets for their spam. Spam seeps through even legitimate mailing lists on occasion, so be conservative when joining a list. Websites often ask for your email address, which can then be added to a spamming list, so be cautious here as well.

Please help us fight the war on spam!

New Subscriber Referral Promotion!

Are you pleased with our service? Do you know someone who is unhappy with their current Internet/On-line service?
Why not do them, and yourself, a favor?
Just recommend our service to them. If they subscribe, we will give you a month of access - no charge!
They will appreciate your advice and you'll save a little money!
Again this month, over a dozen subscribers are getting their access in September for free - by referring new subscribers.

Everybody wins!

Help Desk Notes

It has been a very quiet month for the help desk.
We did notice many subscribers trying to log in using their real name.
You can only log in using your username and password. Your username is the first part of your email address (before the @cove.com). Also, do not type any spaces before or after your username and password and use only lowercase letters. If you still have trouble, please call us - we're here to help.

SysAdmin's Corner

All is quiet at The Cove.
There were no significant outages on our network or our upstream providers' networks to report.
If you are interested in seeing the Internet's performance statistics, we recommend the Internet Traffic Report, located at the bottom of the Internet Section of our website.
We are also working on presenting performance statistics on our own network. This feature is planned to begin in the Fall.

Internet Training

Classes at our Salem facility will be in September on the 7th and 21st and in October on the 12th and 26th. Classes are held from 6pm to 9pm and are only $20 for subscribers.
Classes are only held if we have at least four people scheduled to attend, so reservations are highly recommended.

What's New at the Cove is a monthly publication of Cove Communications.
