New Website Notes

The new Cove website will be installed this month!
Our web developers having been working hard on the new site for several months. Here's a summary of what you can expect to see very soon.
Probably the most apparent change you will notice is our new logo. We have adopted the mariner's compass to keep our nautical theme and also used it as a navigation tool on our site.
The new site is designed to be fast. The pages remain free of unnecessary images, which can lengthen download times.
We were very careful to exactly replicate the site's directory structure and file names. You can browse our new site just as you browsed the old one. You can also continue to use any bookmarks to our new site without any problem. We did, however, make a few changes to the Household Page. Certain subsections (e.g., Pets, Reference, Gardening, Family and Health) have been moved up to the Internet Section for greater accessibility.
The new site also offers visitors the ability to navigate using pull-down menus. These menus expedite movement through the site by eliminating the need to click from one page to the next. To use this feature, your browser must have the use of javascripts enabled (this is the default). Again, you have the choice to use these menus or click through the pages as before.
The Internet Section now has two new categories, Employment and Investing, to provide easy access to those types of sites.
We corrected many old links to sites that no longer exist and added many new links to interesting, useful sites.
Finally, the new site is being validated as "HTML 4.0 Transitional" compliant. This means that it will be fully compatible with all current browsers and also "backwards compatible" with the majority of older browsers.

We hope you like it!

Fighting Spam

Like most ISPs, we continually take measures to prevent spammers from using our mailserver to broadcast their "junk email" throughout the Internet.
However, unlike most other ISPs, we also make an extra effort to shield our subscribers from receiving spam.
Employing anti-spam tactics is an on-going process, as spammers are constantly finding new ways to distribute spam.
You can help us fight spam!
If you receive any unsolicited email asking you to try a product or service, please forward the message to abuse@cove.com. Thanks!

Help Desk Notes

We received a few calls this month from subscribers having problems with their Windows 95 systems. Please remember: You should not turn off your computer before shutting down Windows, otherwise you may corrupt files and harm your programs.
We ask our subscribers who are new to using the Internet to spend a little time with our Help Section, located on our main page. There, you will find several references on using browsers and email programs. There is also a very good tutorial site called the Beginner's Guide, containing many interesting, informative links and pages.

New Subscriber Referral Promotion!

Are you pleased with our service? Do you know someone who is unhappy with their current Internet/On-line service?
Why not do them, and yourself, a favor?
Just recommend our service to them. If they subscribe, we will give you a month of access - no charge!
They will appreciate your advice and you'll save a little money!
Again this month, over a dozen subscribers are getting their access in July for free - by referring new subscribers.

Everybody wins!

SysAdmin's Corner

A power problem at Gloucester High School affected one or more of our terminal servers on June 19. Confusion over staffing assignments that weekend prevented the problem from being corrected until the next day.
Otherwise, there were no significant outages on our network or our upstream links to report.
Interested in seeing the Internet's performance statistics? Visit the Internet Traffic Report, located at the bottom of the Internet Section of our website.

Internet Training

Classes at our Salem facility will be in July on the 20th and in August on the 17th.
