Seasons Greetings

The Staff and I wish you a Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year!

Will Santa Bring Internet Access to the Hard Disk Cafe?

Despite NYNEX, chances are good that Internet access will be available at the hard Disk Cafe by year's end. Although this project was scheduled to be completed in November, NYNEX was unable to provide a suitable circuit until Dec 19. Thanks to our hard-working and talented technicians, Kurt and Leo, the terminal equipment is now up and running. All that is left to do is monitor the equipment during a necessary "burn-in" phase and perform any required modifications - NYNEX willing!

28.8 Modems: Schedule, Access Numbers, and Instructions

The new 28.8 modems have been "burning-in" for some time now and are ready to go on-line. This faster service will become available to Cape Ann subscribers when Internet access is available to the Hard Disk Cafe. The service will be available to North Shore subscribers between Christmas and New years Day.

The main access number for the 28.8 service on Cape Ann will be 281-7480. The main access number for the 28.8 service on the North Shore will be 741-5311. It will only be necessary to dial these numbers since calls are transferred to other numbers if the main number is busy.

Subscribers using 14.4 kb modems will not be affected by this new service and will continue to dial the same numbers they always have.

The following are instructions for changing the dialed number in your computer:

Macs: Go to Config PPP and click Configure. Replace the old number with the new number.
Dos\Windows 3.1: In Trumpet Winsock, click Dialler and then "1. Setup.cmd" (at the bottom of the menu). Replace the old number with the new number. DO NOT CHANGE YOUR LOGIN NAME OR PASSWORD!
Windows 95: In Dial-Up Networking, delete the old Connection Icon and make a new Connection Icon using the new number.

Training on Loggin-on, Netscape and Eudora Now Available

By popular demand, we have begun offering training sessions on how to log into The Cove and use Netscape and Eudora. These sessions are quite painless, lasting only three hours, and very informative. These are also inexpensive - $20 for subscribers and $65 for non-subscribers. Classes will be scheduled for Saturdays 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm at the Hard Disk Cafe and Mondays 6:30 to 9:30 at The Cove. Classes are limited to 10 people per session. Our first class was sold out, so please call the office at (508) 741-5300 to reserve a seat.

Billing

We want to bring to your attention that this billing reflects two month usage: December and January.

We have not billed subscribers for two months, since our bookkeeper insists on billing everyone at once and billing had been suspended for Cape Ann subscribers for the month of November due to our NYNEX problems.

Interesting Pages...

We have developed some interesting pages recently for clients that may be of interest to our subscribers.

Winning Moves, a local game company, has an interactive game on-line at "http://www.winning-moves.com/".

Some of you may have heard of Joshua Slokum. He was the first to circumnavigate the globe on a sailing vessel around a hundred years ago. To commemorate his voyage, David Dunn has procured a replica of Slokum's vessel, The Spray, and plans to repeat the voyage this Spring. Cove Communications has agreed to manage the communications for this project, which will include Internet file transfers via satellite. Pages describing this adventure can be found at "http://www.cove.com/spray".
