New Network Center

Inside this issue:

Our new network center is now in full operation!

The new center is much better suited for housing and maintaining servers than our old facility. We now have two and a half times the electrical power and improved distribution of that power. We also have finer control over the temperature and humidity of the facility. These factors are critical for long server life and consistent server performance.

The migration to the new facility took place in four phases.

The first phase involved moving the central switching of subnets used by businesses in Shetland Park. These were completed one at a time with downtimes of less than 5 to 10 minutes each.

The second phase involved moving our co-located servers to the new facility. This move was completed all at once and resulted in downtime of less than 20 minutes.

(continued on back)

New CoveCam View

The CoveCam will also be moving out of our old facility.

Its new home will be the offices of our good friends at BitWyse Solutions.

BitWyse is also located in Shetland Park. They have a spectacular location in the back of the building adjacent to ours and their view overlooks Salem Harbor.

Visitors to the CoveCam will soon be able to enjoy this unique, panoramic view of Salem Harbor and the daily activities of those using the harbor.

New Network Center (cont.)

The third phase involved moving our web hosting server cluster to the new facility. This move was also completed all at once and resulted in downtime of less than 20 minutes.

The fourth and final phase involved moving all our networking equipment (e.g., routers, switches, modems, etc) and supporting servers to the new facility. This move was

the most critical, as it affected service to all our network components. The swapping of circuits was planned in a way that minimized downtime to the components already at the new

facility. The most downtime for this phase was experienced by our dialup customers.

Help Desk Notes

SysAdmin's Corner

It was mainly a quiet month at the help desk.

Many calls came in during the outage.

If you ever need help, please select tech support (Option 2) if you call our main office. This

will enable you to get our dialup access numbers, email settings or our toll-free help desk number.

Please remember, our help desk team is available to you 24 hours a day and the direct, toll free number is
877-221-2116.

This was a quiet, but busy month on the network.

Our upstream providers reported no outages and, aside from the moves to our new facility, our servers had no downtime.

After two months of planning

the moves to our new facility and another month completing those moves, we are looking forward to a bit of time to regroup!

Our next big project involves installing trunk cabling between buildings in Shetland Park.

Did You Know?

The CoveCam has provided visitors with an online view of Pickering Wharf for over seven years. Roughly five years ago the view was upgraded from a still picture to full streaming video.

We receive emails from all over the world thanking us for the view.
