Network Center Moves Update

Inside this issue:

The construction of our new network center is almost complete. New T1 circuits are installed and being tested. Power has also been installed and will be turned on this week. We have been installing new patch panels, ethernet switches and cables for the past week as well.

We expect the new network center will be ready by the end of next week. At that time we will start moving racks of equipment from our old location to the new center.

Great time for skating and sledding!

These moves will take place on the weekends and in the evenings to minimize the effects of any service disruptions. We will also

make use of redundant equipment as much as possible, reducing any downtimes even further.

We will provide you with as much advanced notice as possible of each move and their effects to services.

Most of the equipment should be moved to the new location by mid-March, with the new T1 circuits being turned on shortly thereafter.

Partial Network Outage

This past weekend we experienced a service outage which affected our hosting operations, co-locations and shared ethernet subnets. The outage did not affect any services involving our dialup

customers.

Although our network and servers were operating fine, our upstream provider made an error when reloading their

routing information and basically neglected to point six of our eight IP blocks to us. Mail and web services were affected for most of the day.

Network Center Moves Update (cont.)

We will also be re-terminating the circuits of our shared ethernet customers in Shetland Park during this month. A few customers are already on the new network, several more

are being transferred this week and the rest will be transferred by mid-March.

Our new web hosting cluster will also be moved to our new

location. Those web sites and services will later be transferred to new servers installed in two or more data centers. We anticipate that move taking place sometime in

the late Spring or early Summer.

Again, we will be in constant contact with all affected customers during these moves.

Help Desk Notes

SysAdmin's Corner

It was mainly a quiet month at the help desk.

Many calls came in during the outage.

If you ever need help, please select tech support (Option 2) if you call our main office. This

will enable you to get our dialup access numbers, email settings or our toll-free help desk number.

Please remember, our help desk team is available to you 24 hours a day and the direct, toll free number is
877-221-2116.

This was mostly a quiet month on the network.

While our network and servers had no downtime, our upstream provider managed to cause the outage described above.

All our efforts will be focused

on planning, preparing and implementing each phase of the move for the entire month of March.

As you might imagine, managing the move of a network that has been operating in a location for ten years is a complex task.
