Network Center Moves

Inside this issue:

As you know, we moved our administrative offices to Beverly.

Now we are planning on moving our servers and other networking equipment to a couple of data centers and another location within Shetland Park in Salem.

The plan is to split our new web hosting platform cluster of servers into two logical groups and move each group to geographically separate data centers. These moves will enhance our survivability, add

redundancy and improve access times to our hosted web sites from anywhere in the world.

Our other networking equipment, including routers, switches, modems and other support equipment will be moved to a new location within the same building we are now located.

We expect to move our networking equipment sometime in early March. If we discover there is any possibility of network downtime due to the move, we will broadcast a message alerting you of the exact date and time of this move.

New Mail Server Planned

The new mail server we created for our web hosting customers is a great success. Many customers have praised the new services offered, such as per-mailbox anti-spam preferences and the

new WebMail interface.

We are now planning on building another, similar mail server for our dialup customers. The new mail server

will provide the same services as the web hosting mail server.

This new mail server should be available sometime in late Spring.

Upgrading Dialup Services

The grand majority of people access the Internet with a Windows-based computer. Unfortunately, most virus-infected email and direct attacks are aimed at Windows computers.

Microsoft tries to keep up with all their OS vulnerabilities by making security patches available, but most people do not install these patches.

We have provided anti-virus protection as part of our email services for many years.

Now, in an effort to further protect our customers, we are

implementing firewalls to help protect our dialup customers from attacks aimed at their computers other than through virus-infected email.

Help Desk Notes

SysAdmin's Corner

It was a busy month at the help desk!

Most calls were for setup information and instructions on how to receive email.

If you ever need help, please select tech support (Option 2) if you call our main office. This

will enable you to get our dialup access numbers, email settings or our toll-free help desk number.

Please remember, our help desk team is available to you 24 hours a day and the direct, toll free number is
877-221-2116.

This was a relatively quiet month on the network.

Our upstream providers reported no outages and our servers had no downtime.

We are preparing for our server moves; wiring, power, environmental controls and network interfaces all need to

be in place prior to the actual moves.

We have installed several firewall rules on our dialup customer's terminal server. These rules block attackers from reaching vulnerable ports on Windows-based computers.

New Subscriber Referral Promotion!

Are you pleased with our service? Do you know someone who is unhappy with their current Internet or On-line service?

Why not do them and yourself a favor?

Just recommend our service. If they subscribe, we'll give you a free month of access!

They will appreciate your advice and you'll save a little money.

Again this month, several subscribers are getting their access in February for free - just by referring new subscribers.

Everybody wins!

Did You Know?

Receiving email with a large attachment makes your email program seem like it is not working, but actually it is just trying to download that huge attachment.

This problem is easily solved by first checking your mail, viewing and deleting that message, through our WebMail interface!
