This FAQ answers common questions about our new dialup access lines
and dialup service in general.
- Is my new access number in my local calling area?
Yes! Although you may not recognize the exchange, they have been verified
by us as local numbers. You can verify this yourself by looking in
the LOCAL AND IN-STATE TOLL CALLING INFORMATION section located
in the front pages of your Verizon phone book.
- Do I need to change my login name?
No. You should not change any of your login names (i.e., your dialup
username or your email username).
- Do I need to change my password?
No. You should not change any of your passwords (i.e., your dialup
password or your email password).
- I connect to Cove through a T1 (or ISDN circuit). Do I need to
change my settings?
No. Only Cove DialUp subscribers need to change their dialup access
number.
- I use Cove for my email, but use DSL (or cable) for my access.
Do I need to change my settings?
No. Only Cove DialUp subscribers need to change their dialup access
number.
- Do I have to change my SMTP or POP server settings?
No. The only change to be made is the dialup access number.
- Will I still be able to monitor my usage?
Yes. We are using the same servers to process that information, so
you can still monitor your usage through our TimeCheck
service.
- We access Cove with several computers. Will we still be able
to do this?
Your dialup account provides you one connection at a time (i.e., one
account, one access at a time; two accounts, two accesses at the same
time, etc.) For example, if you use your Cove access account at your
office and the same account at home, there will be no problem unless
someone at both locations are trying to connect at the same time.
If this becomes a problem for you, please consider our Multi-link
service, as described in the Internet
Access page of our Sales & Services section.
- Are any other services affected by these changes?
Yes! Our new access lines connect to "cleaner" lines at
Verizon and access authorization now takes place completely within
our Salem facility. You may find your login time and Internet connection
are both much faster than before.
