| Effective April 2nd 2001, Verizon requires everyone in Massachusetts to use
10 digit dialing. This means that even for local calls, you MUST dial 978 and
the number (without a 1). To assist you in changing your Cove settings, we
have outlined how to update the most popular dialers. If
your dialer isn't shown here, or you require assistance changing the
access
number, please call our offices or e-mail help@cove.com.

WindowsFrom your desktop, double-click on the My Computer icon. |

Then double-click on Dial-Up Networking. |

Using the Right mouse button, click on your Cove icon and select Properties from the menu that appears. |
If there is an area code listed in the area code box, leave it there. In the Telephone number box, add a 978 to the beginning of your access number. Uncheck the "Use country code and area code" box. Click OK. |

Macintosh (Using Free PPP)Open FreePPP Setup. Click on the Accounts Tab. If the Tabs aren't visible, click on the small triangle to the left of the word "Using". Click on your Cove connection in the left hand box and click the Edit... button. |

If there is an area code listed, remove it. In the Phone number box, enter a 978 to the left of your access number. Make sure Dial area code and dial as long distance is NOT checked and click OK. |

Macintosh (Using PPP or Remote Access)Go to the Apple Menu > Control Panels > PPP (or Remote Access on MacOS 8.5 and above). In the number box, enter a 978 in front of your access number. Close the window and click Save.
